Happy June, my friend. I hope today’s newsletter finds you well. Of course June is the month of graduations, Father’s Day, and the First Day of Summer in the Northern Hemisphere, which to me means smaller, lighter knitting projects. (For my sudiensis friends, what woolies are you working on in anticipation of Winter?)
Today I’m releasing a new pattern that definitely fits the bill, plus it makes a great gift for the necktie-wearer in your life.
Introducing Nicholas Necktie ($US6 - plus a coupon at the bottom with the links)…
As you can see, this is a stylish, fully-fashioned necktie (no teensy scarves around here). Years ago I designed a necktie for my dad (still one of my most-popular patterns, Dennis), so it seemed only fitting that I would get around to making a new one for my husband.
My husband Nicholas doesn’t wear ties (usually), but occasionally he needs to spiff up, say for a wedding, so he came to me for help. To keep my interest in the knitting, I found a lovely slip-stitch pattern that adds just the right amount of texture and depth. Of course this is a fully-fashioned necktie, not a teensy scarf, with a keeper and everything.
Things you’ll love about knitting Nicholas Necktie:
It’s a small, portable project that only requires 50g of fingering yarn (and you have a delightful number of options in this weight of yarn)
The stitch pattern is provided in both written and charted formats
Very little finishing work is involved - sew on the keeper and weave in some ends
Things you’ll love about wearing Nicholas Necktie:
The stitch pattern is subtle yet stylish
It’s a proper necktie with body in the “show” part and less fabric around the neck, so you won’t feel strangled, plus a keeper
A hand-crafted tie!
Finished Measurements
Width at base: 2 inches / 5 cm
Length: 59 inches / 150 cm
Materials
Shibui Staccato* (Fingering: 70% merino, 30% silk; 191 yds / 175 m per 50 g / 1.76 oz skein), color: Suit, 1 skein or approx. 180 yds fingering weight yarn
US1 set of 4 DPNs or size to achieve gauge
Waste yarn, tapestry needle
Sadly Shibui Staccato has been discontinued; however, there are other merino/silk blend fingering weight yarns out there. 100% wool yarn will give you a crisp and slightly rugged look, while a silk blend provides a luxurious gleam—you’ve got lots of delicious options.

Thanks!

You can find Nicholas Necktie in my Payhip shop and on Ravelry. Until 14 June 2021 use the code theknitno7 for 25% off the pattern on Ravelry OR 25% off all patterns on Payhip (and I know I need to get the rest of my self-published patterns up in the shop; Ravelry keeps getting more problematic, unfortunately). The buttons below will take you to the pattern’s page on each site.
That’s all the news for now. I hope you’re happily knitting away whichever hemisphere you’re in. Until the 15th…
Happy knitting!
xxoo, Kathleen
