Hiya, knitting friends! I hope this finds you well and (if in the northern hemisphere) leaning into “sweather” and Fall knitting.
Unfortunately right after my birthday (and my most recent newsletter), I came down with the world’s worst cold. Not COVID but I was down and out for two solid weeks (low grade fever, general malaise, and a gross cough - no fun), so I haven’t had as productive a knitting month as I would have liked. I mean, that’s how bad it was! I did manage to knit up a pair of fingerless gloves with yarn purchased from WEBS when we dropped Isobel off at Smith.
They’re kind of like mittens but without the closed tops, so you can fold the hand and thumb parts down to have free fingers or pull them up to be cozier, and the ribbing makes them a one size fits many.
In taking that photo, I see that one is shorter than the other. Argh. That’s what happens when you’re knitting on very pointy size 0 DPNs and just want to finish, I guess. There should be time to fix that before I head off to Rhinebeck tomorrow.
Will I see you there? I’ll be at the fairgrounds Saturday, petting sheep, selecting yarn for future projects, and generally being in my happy place. If you see me, say hello and share your latest discoveries. On Sunday I’m going to visit Jill Draper and enjoy the scenic drive home. After years of working at New York Sheep & Wool and Indie Untangled, I’m looking forward to just, well, for lack of a better word, vibing. Not getting there before the gates open and lugging bags of yarn, boxes of books, samples and mannequins. Much as I loved that, it seems I need a break from all the bustle.
If you’re not heading to the Hudson Valley for this weekend’s wool festival, I hope you have something fun planned, maybe fun with fiber.
I’ve got a fingering weight cardigan on the needles now. Sleeves complete and working my way up the body (all stockinette), but I’m trying to decide if I want some fancy stitch work in the yoke (I have a few designs like that, Kellynch has a lacy yoke, while Bittersweet has twisted stitches and Irish knots - substack isn’t letting me add links for some reason, but the buttons at the bottom of this newsletter will take you to my shops, and you can find them from there). I’m using some stashed yarn from my trip to Paris when working on I Knit Paris, so it’s bringing back fun memories. Let me know what you’re working on, and hopefully I’ll have something interesting to share next month.
Until then, happy knitting!
Kathleen
