When I drew up the Advent list of patterns, I discovered that I designed things in approximately 24 categories - how convenient! - and then I selected one pattern for each and randomly made the list, which leads us to today’s pattern, my one and only muff design: Cold Hands, Warm Heart!
The super fun thing about this design (besides the question of who exactly needs a hand muff in the 21st Century?) is that it is worked seamlessly in one piece from a single skein of Sincere Sheep Cormo Worsted (and filled with Cormo roving - the decadence!). The looping heart cables cover this muff with love, while the provisional cast-on and three-needle bind-off make it virtually finish-free. There’s also an i-cord wrist loop so that your delightful muff doesn’t go astray.
This is a great one-skein worsted weight project that you could finish in time for holiday giving, all while employing some excellent knitting skills. Try cabling without a cable needle on this one (N.B. the cable pattern is provided in chart form only). If you don’t have access to roving (or feel it’s a waste to turn nice roving into stuffing - as you can tell, I’m not a spinner), a bit of quilt batting would work nicely, since the filler for the muff is wrapped around the inner portion of the muff before the cabled tube is pulled over and everything is closed up. Standard polyfil is a bit awkward for this technique.

Until tomorrow…
