Hi, I’m Kathleen Dames, and this is The Knit. It’s completely free to access and read, but if you would like to support my work, please consider a paid newsletter subscription for $5 per month or $50 annually. Thank you! Your support helps me create more knitting patterns and fun content ad-free. Thank you so much.
Today we are admiring the Fortuny Wrap, a generous rectangular stole inspired by the Delphos gowns and coordinating hand-printed belts of Mariano Fortuny (something I swoon over whenever they show up in a costume exhibit). Of course I’m not privy to the secret of hand-pleating Fortuny gowns, but inspired by the pleats I chose lace rib pattern and a Candle Flame lace stitch to bring those columnar gowns and their coordinating belts into knitwear.
I like to wear my Fortuny as a generous and snuggly scarf, but of course it can be spread out and draped across the shoulders for a more shawl-like presentation. Kim at Woolen Rabbit dyed her beautiful Opal yarn (a scrumptious blend of Merino, silk, and cashmere) in the gleaming Tupelo Honey color for me, and I bet if you asked nicely after the holidays, she would set you up with something beautiful. Two skeins of tonal sock yarn will do the trick.
Be sure to use code ADVENT2021 for 50% off this and all Advent patterns in either shop.
This pattern is definitely an after-the-holidays project, as we are getting down to the wire (for those who celebrate). I’ve got another “gift to yourself” design for tomorrow. Until then…
xxoo, Kathleen
