Hi, I’m Kathleen Dames, and this is The Knit. It’s completely free to access and read, but if you would like to support my work, please consider a paid newsletter subscription for $5 per month or $50 annually. Thank you! Your support helps me create more knitting patterns and fun content ad-free. Thank you so much.
As with Wednesday’s muff, I only have one pattern in the sock category: Walk the Plank, a handsome, toe-up pair of socks with a short-row heel and Sailor’s Rib on the legs. In worsted weight yarn, you can knit up a pair in no time, then pad around the house with toasty toes or wrap them up for someone special.
We are getting close to the last of the this-season gift knits - things you could conceivably knit before the exchange of holiday gifts, but I just want to take a moment to let you know that it’s OK to give someone you love a half-finished knit with the needles still attached (and a promise to finish ASAP). Better something truly special for someone special that isn’t complete than some tat from Am*zon. You can also decide to not do handmade gifts because it’s too much pressure. If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that life is too precious and unpredictable to make yourself crazy. Getting off my soapbox now, and tomorrow we’ll have something a little more frivolous that you might want to cast on for yourself (or once the gift knitting is finished).
Happy knitting!
xxoo, Kathleen
