Hi, I’m Kathleen Dames, and this is The Knit. It’s completely free to access and read, but if you would like to support my work, please consider a paid newsletter subscription for $5 per month or $50 annually. Thank you! Your support helps me create more knitting patterns and fun content ad-free. Thank you so much.
Happy December 1st, my friends. There is a light at the end of the college and NYC high school applications tunnel that I have been in, so I thought I would do something fun for all of us.
For the next 24 days I’m going to offer you 50% off a specific pattern each day as an Advent calendar of some of my favorite patterns. This does mean you will hear from me every day, but I hope you’ll enjoy it. The coupon code is ADVENT2021, and it will work in both my Ravelry and Payhip shops.
Today I bring you JOY, which comes in two sizes and brings joy to all who see it. With some bright red yarn and two DPNs, you can festoon your home with some clever bunting (and almost no finishing work), by creating garter stitch flags out the side of your i-cord. Letterform templates are also included to spell out your joy with felt. While you’re at the craft store (or rummaging through your craft supplies), grab a few bells and sew them to the flags. Every time our front door is opened, we hear a little jingle, making the season just a bit more festive.
This one is fun and quick. There’s definitely time to knit a few this month. The knit stitch, plus basic increase and decreases, are all you need to know to create this one. Don’t forget to used ADVENT2021 for 50% off JOY Garland until 11:59 pm EST.
Until tomorrow…
Happy knitting,
xxoo, Kathleen
P.S. I turned 400yds of sock yarn into a long yet teeny garland for my tree using the Small Garland technique from the pattern and a pair of US2 DPNs. It took a while, but now I can’t wait to wind it around our tree this weekend. You could also head in the other direction with thicker-than-worsted yarn (and bigger needles) for a bit of bulky JOY.
